House Rules – Cottage

Welcome to Smitten Guest Cottages.

Our area boasts some of the best wine farms, but once you make yourself comfortable, you may end up having to visit a second time to get to them.
We trust that you will have a memorable experience and that the peace and tranquillity
will leave you feeling rejuvenated & ready to tackle life’s challenges again.
Please read through our information book and feel free to reach out if there is anything else you require assistance with.
We don’t live on the property but have an assistant who lives across the road if needed.

Amenities Usage:

Loadshedding:
We have rechargeable flashlights and candles available and have also installed some light bulbs with built-in batteries. They are not very effective and don’t last the full 2 hours, but they do assist. The wall lights closest to the fireplace have these in. We have installed battery backup for the WIFI so this will remain operational.

JBL speaker:
Is available for your entertainment. Please be mindful of noise levels after 22:00. Please be kind and leave it on charge upon departure.

Indoor fireplace
It might look small, but it has a big effect.
Under the door is 2 metal levers. When open, it allows the fire to breathe, which is important when starting the fire. When closed it will push out more heat. The handle does get hot, please use the fire glove provided to open the door.
Please only use wood provided and do not overload with wood.
Do not leave anything on top of the fireplace when in use and take care when passing by it.

Hot tub
NB! We replace the water and clean out the tub after each visit. Water is sourced directly from the canal and filtered, but might still have a green/brown tint.
The hot tub takes about 3hrs to warm up from cold. It has already been prepared for you, just keep the fire going. The pool cover helps keep in the heat, we recommend leaving it on when not in use.
Too hot? Right next to the tub in the ground is a green cover.
Twist it open, open the tap and let some water out. Please remember to close the tap, or the tub will run dry. Please don’t ever let he tub run dry while the fire is burning inside the oven.
Add cold water? On the side of the tub is a tap, open to let in cold water. Please remember to close the tap or it will overflow.

Start a new fire? Take off the oven lid, start your fire. Leave the lid off until fire has sufficient coals to maintain the core temperature. The lid can now be placed back, but bear in mind that a gap needs to remain open so the fire can breathe. If the lid is right up against the chimney, you should be good to go.
Wood can be found under the braai and works on an honesty system. A money box is in the kitchen cupboard, pay by cash or Zapper. A small amount of firelighters is also provided.
Only pick up the lid from the wooden handle, the rest of the metal gets hot. A fire glove is available under the indoor fireplace. Oven parts under water does not get hot, neither does the chimney.
